Meet the Head of Schools: Rolfe Carawan

Mr. Rolfe Carawan assumed the duties of Head of Schools beginning Wednesday, February 2, 2011.
Mr. Rolfe Carawan, a graduate of the College of William and Mary, holds an M.Ed. in Counseling and a B.S. in Education. Rolfe and his wife, Lea, have two children in college, one at Radford University and the other at the College of William and Mary.
Mr. Carawan served as the Founder and CEO of Carawan Global Communications & Consulting, a human development group dedicated to developing people and building unity. Rolfe has delivered over a thousand keynote speeches, workshops and seminars, inspiring audiences to build better relationships, achieve their potential, and live meaningful lives.
Rolfe’s career in education and leadership began as a teacher and coach at Hampton Roads Academy. He ventured in public education, and then continued at Norfolk Academy. He later founded LifeMatters, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping young people and their parents gain the needed skills to improve their relationship dynamics. Recognizing that personal character is foundational for developing strong relationships and unity, Rolfe authored two books: Character Revolution: Restoring America's Soul for emerging leaders, and Profiles in Character, an inspiring look into the lives of individuals who impacted their world through personal character. He also was a contributing author to Congressman Randy Forbes' Run To The Roar: A Fable of Choice, Courage, and Hope. His legacy is thousands of people who have been inspired to live a life with character, competence, and compassion.
In the words of Mr. Carawan:
I dream of giving the StoneBridge opportunity to all the children in Tidewater, Virginia, our Nation, and even to the ends of the earth. Now some may call that hubris; I prefer to call it faith!
We will continue to be committed to providing an education customized to the individual needs and challenges of your child. The Principle Approach® – a proven methodology for developing the mental skills and Biblical Worldview our children need – will continue to be the anchor for our process.
I am excited to begin this journey together. With love for one another and an unwavering commitment to seeing God’s Glory reflected in all that we are and do…I look forward to meeting each and every one of you.
I hope you will join me in thanking the Headmaster Search Committee which has labored so diligently for months. Chaired by Jennifer Boyd, the committee members are Carole Adams, Connie DeBord, Kim Frost, Gary LeBlanc, Greg Lee, Jim Parroco, and Alison Worret. We also want to thank Bob Tindall, an executive search professional for lending his valuable time and experience working on our behalf.
We express deepest thanks and heartfelt gratitude for the capable and sacrificial leadership of the Acting Headmasters and the Senior Leadership Team. Their willingness to serve above and beyond their normal job duties afforded the Board the time necessary to conduct a thorough and deliberate search. We extend thanks to Jeff Carlucci, Martha Shirley, Cheryl Hunnewell, Trudy Webb, Kathy Rader, and Jackie Shaw for not only rising to the enlarged tasks, but also for doing a wonderful job of steering the school throughout this first semester with grace, competence, and energy.
The Board of Directors is thrilled that the Lord has called Rolfe Carawan to leadership at StoneBridge School. We begin this new era with great anticipation of renewed vision and purpose. He is looking forward to meeting every family in the school. I know you will be inspired under his leadership as together we cast the vision for our next thirty years!
