The Impact cheerleading team, StoneBridge Superstars, completed their first season last weekend, earning 1st place and Competition Grand Champion at the All-School Regional Winter Cheerleading Competition. This season, coaches Nicole Kittrell and Kara Fox led the team of 17 girls (grades K5-4th) to also earn 1st place in the FCC East Coast Championship and 2nd place in the FCC National Championship.
Head Coach Nicole Kittrell said, "Once I learned about the Impact program, I fell in love with it. We really learned as we went, but this was a great group of athletes who really encouraged each other." The team practiced twice a week, which included strength training, cardio, and a devotional that taught the girls how the character of Jesus ties into being a good teammate.
To build trust and synergy, the team did icebreakers at practice and participated in a Big Sis/Lil Sis program that allowed the older cheerleaders to mentor and encourage the younger girls. At the National Championship, the team traveled to Orlando to compete against five other teams in their division. "They were very nervous, but we told them to do their best and shine for Jesus and that is exactly what they did!" Coach Kittrell added, "The Godly character they are instilled with at StoneBridge makes everything easier when we already have common ground. We are all here for Jesus. It really makes it special when we are truly sisters in Christ."
