One Generation Sows while the Next Reaps

Steven Morse

Allen and Peg Morse have both dedicated themselves to investing in the lives of children at StoneBridge – Allen as the new college counselor in the high school, and Peg as the Head Librarian since 2000.

Their son, Steven, is now reaping the benefits of others at StoneBridge investing in his life.

Steven graduated from StoneBridge High School in June 2004, with the honor of being named his class valedictorian. In November 2004, Steven earned the distinction of AP Scholar by the College Board in recognition of his exceptional achievement on the college-level Advanced Placement Program (AP) Exams.

The College Board’s Advanced Placement Program offers students the opportunity to take challenging college-level courses while still in high school and to receive college credit, advanced placement, or both, for successful performance on the AP Exams.

Steven qualified for the AP Scholar Award by completing four AP Examinations in mathematics and language with grades of 3 or higher. Only about 17 percent of the more than one million high school students who took AP Exams last year performed at a sufficiently high level to merit the recognition of AP Scholar.

Now Steven continues his quest for excellence at the Military Academy at West Point, where he is beginning his second semester as a freshman.

Allen Morse

Allen acknowledges the significant role StoneBridge played in preparing Steven for college.

"Recently during a telephone conversation, I asked him how difficult it was to carve out time for class study considering his many 'plebe' discipline requirements. He said the work methods and study habits he had learned at StoneBridge were really proving invaluable. In particular, he noted that working from primary source documents through middle and high school, as well as surviving Dr. Gerdes' Read-to-Lead course, had equipped him to organize and digest large volumes of difficult information rapidly and efficiently.

"Consequently, amid the daily physical demands on a first-year cadet and the time consuming requirements of almost constant inspections and drills, Steven said he still is able to prepare thoroughly for his next day’s classes and get to bed by lights out – while his roommates stay up with miners’ lights strapped to their heads studying."

"Thanks, StoneBridge."

And thanks as well to the Morses, as they sow into the lives of students now walking the halls of StoneBridge School - future valedictorians, AP Scholars, and leaders.
