Boys' Soccer Team Scores Both On & Off the Field
Visiting
Referee Praises Team
Recently
the StoneBridge varsity boys' soccer team received a letter from
a referee who officiated what was termed an “incredibly
physical” match, in which he stated:
“In my thirteen years as a referee,
I have never met a finer group of players than those that represented your school…in
addition to playing an excellent game of soccer, this group of young men demonstrated
qualities, skills and behavior far more important than the mere ability to
put a ball in the back of the net.”
In response, Coach Jeff Carlucci said, “We have been successful
as a team both in our abilities on
the
field
but also in exemplifying Jesus Christ. The
most important thing to me is that the young men on our team honor God in
everything that we do. I want everything that we do as a soccer program to
point the players
to Jesus Christ. The development of the players’ character to reflect
Jesus Christ is why the team exists.”
Ranked
fourth in the Virginia Independent Schools Soccer Association (VISSA)
Division II Statewide Poll, this year the team received their first-ever
invitation to play in the VISSA Division II State Tournament. They
also won the Steward School invitational tournament, and four players
on the team have been named to the Metro Athletic Conference All-Conference
or Honorable Mention All-Conference Team. This is also the first
year the boys’ soccer team has won a victory against a public
school, as well as defeating the second ranked team in the state.
Playing their most challenging schedule ever, they have a regular
season record of 10-7.
Congratulations to ALL the players on the StoneBridge boys’ varsity
soccer team, for exemplifying excellent sportsmanship as well as
Christian character.
We are proud of you!
